Double Wedding Ring Quilt

At the diagnostic center hangs this quilt, made by Amish hands. According to the sign, the quiltmakers have a fascinatino with this pattern, even though the Amish don’t wear wedding rings. Their interest seems to lie in the difficulty of quilting, with exactness, in a pattern of all circles, and also in the seriousness with which they take marriage.

I’ve been meaning to shoot this before I lose it or throw it away. We had new wedding bands made after 25 years together (22nd wedding aniversary). I had a simple sliver band with a single diamond – because she was my one love. She had several stones in hers – I guess I didn’t read her design too well : O

My Mum had a hand in this photo… oh, okay stop looking at me like that! She did! I was struggling to come up with ideas and she said ‘take a photo of my beautiful patchwork!’ – so I did. But as I was shooting I noticed how much the hands take a part in the patchwork process. I thought cropping it into a square format was particularly fitting too (004/365)

DSP 50: Found! 2007-07-06

Two weeks ago, on day 36, I mentioned that I’d lost something important to me. Today, I’m happy to say my wedding band has been found.

My wife was out of town (is still out of town) but somehow she guessed (immediately) what I was referring to on Day 36. I was doing some yard work, cleaning up some bushes that had been removed and at one point I realized I didn’t have my ring on anymore. Today I rented a metal detector for and found the ring right where I thought it would be.

I wanted to take a picture that featured the ring and this is what it evolved into. It took several shots to get the lighting/alignment/proximity correct. I think it came out well.
